Frequently Asked Questions
Chenille is a type of fabric characterised by its soft, fuzzy texture and its unique construction.
The word "chenille" is French for "caterpillar," which aptly describes the fabric's fuzzy appearance. Chenille fabric is made from cotton, wool, silk, or synthetic fibres such as polyester or acrylic.
The distinctive feature of chenille fabric is its construction, which involves wrapping short lengths of yarn, called the "pile," around a core yarn. This creates a plush surface with a velvety feel. The pile stands out from the fabric base, giving the chenille its characteristic softness and texture.
Chenille fabric can be used for various purposes, including upholstery, bedding, curtains, clothing, and accessories. Its softness makes it particularly popular for items like blankets, throws, pillows, and bathrobes. Additionally, chenille is often used in cleaning products such as wash mitts or mop heads because of its ability to trap dirt and absorb moisture effectively.
Overall, chenille is valued for its luxurious feel, versatility, and practical applications across a range of industries.
Chenille is great for wash mitts for a few reasons:
Softness: Chenille fabric is incredibly soft, making it gentle on surfaces like car paint or delicate household items. This softness helps prevent scratches or abrasions while cleaning.
-
Absorbency: Chenille has a unique texture that allows it to hold a significant amount of water or cleaning solution. This helps in efficiently cleaning surfaces without constantly needing to reapply soap or water.
-
Dirt Trapping: The looped construction of chenille fabric creates a texture that is adept at trapping dirt, dust, and debris. This means that when you're using a chenille wash mitt, you're not just moving dirt around but actually capturing it within the fibers, providing a more thorough clean.
-
Durability: Chenille is known for its durability, which means that wash mitts made from this material can withstand repeated use and washing without deteriorating quickly. This makes them a cost-effective choice in the long run.
Overall, chenille's softness, absorbency, dirt-trapping ability, and durability make it an excellent choice for wash mitts, whether for washing cars or cleaning various surfaces around the house.Chenille is a type of fabric characterised by its soft, fuzzy texture and its unique construction. Using a Chenille wash mitt for polishing a car is not recommended. Chenille fabric is designed for cleaning purposes rather than polishing or buffing.
When it comes to polishing a car, you'll want to use materials specifically designed for that task to achieve the best results.
What you will need
-
Bucket (or two buckets if using the two-bucket wash method)
-
Wash Mitt and Brushes.
-
Hermosa Wash Mitt
-
Detail brush to clean around trim and hard-to-get areas.
-
Water blaster or a strong garden hose with spray nozzle.
-
We recommend a good quality latex or similar waterproof glove.
Step 1
Wait for the car to cool down if it has been driven recently (wait at least 30 minutes if the wheels or hood are hot).
Once the vehicle is cool to the touch, put on your gloves and lets go!
Step 2
Give the car a good hose down or water blast, and try to remove as much dirt and road debris as possible.
Step 3
Mix a car wash (ideally the Hermosa Ceramic Car Shampoo) into a bucket using the manufacturer's dilution recommendation. Spray the water blaster or hose into the bucket to activate the bubbles and mix the shampoo into the solution.
Step 4
Wash the car with the Hermosa Wash Mitt. Wash one area such as a panel or side of the car at a time, then wash with fresh water. Do not let the wash solution dry on the car.
Step 5
Wash the car with fresh water. If you have used the Hermosa Ceramic Shampoo you will notice water beading from the paintwork - dont worry if you have never seen this before! It shows Hermosa Ceramic Shampoo's hydrophobic capabilities in action.
Step 6
Dry your car using a microfibre drying cloth or similar.
